What is the difference between MRP and PP/DS in SAP S/4HANA?
MRP calculates what to make or buy and when, assuming unlimited capacity. Embedded PP/DS adds detailed scheduling against real capacity, sequencing and finite planning for critical resources. Many manufacturers run both: MRP for most materials and PP/DS where capacity is the constraint. Our article PP/DS vs. MRP in SAP S/4HANA walks through the decision.
Do we need PEO, or is standard production planning enough?
Standard PP covers most discrete, repetitive and process scenarios. PEO is designed for complex, low-volume assembly with frequent engineering changes, detailed manual work instructions, buyoffs and serial traceability, which is common in aerospace, defense and industrial equipment. We help you decide based on your products and processes.
Is embedded PP/DS included in SAP S/4HANA?
PP/DS is embedded in SAP S/4HANA, so there is no separate system to run. Whether it is covered by your current SAP license depends on your contract, so we recommend confirming scope with SAP before design starts.
Can SAP S/4HANA work with our existing MES?
Yes. SAP S/4HANA can hand orders and master data to an execution system and receive confirmations, goods movements and quality results back. Whether you use PEO, SAP Digital Manufacturing or an existing MES, we design the integration so the plan and the shop floor stay in sync.
Can you help if we are already live on SAP S/4HANA?
Yes. Much of our work is improving planning and production processes on systems that are already live, for example stabilizing production order processes, introducing PP/DS for bottleneck resources or adding PEO for complex assembly.
